A rock band with 5 members with different personalities - ViViD. The band gathered popularity with unbelievable speed immediately after starting their activities, and made their major debut only 2 years after starting the band. And not just that - all of their singles after the debut have ranked in to the top-10 on the weekly Oricon charts. Their live at the famous Nippon Budokan after only a year of the debut was a huge success.
This year the guys are pursuing to achieve another challenge - the longest tour in the history of ViViD, "Just do it!!". The tour going up to 3 months of length consists of a hard schedule of 41 performances. The first day of the tour was the live at SHIBUYA-AX on 19th April.
This live was also their 4th year anniversary one man live. SHIBUYA-AX is also the place where they announced their major debut. There is no doubt that this day, this place was important to both the members and the fans. There is probably no need to even mention that lots of fans had arrived to this place today to celebrate the important day.
The moment the lights were turned off, the hall that had been filled with noise just a moment ago, fell silent. As the SE started playing, shouts filled with excitement and joy filled the live house. As members appeared to the stage, the fans voices kept growing bigger. When all of the members had appeared to the stage, the lights turned to red together with Ko-ki's powerful drums, and the live began.
Despite of being in a scene where it's usual to wear costumes created to fit the concept of each release, these guys have been showing their natural selves from quite a while ago. On this day too, the members were wearing their own clothes showing their personalities to the fullest. Ko-ki (Dr) was wearing a large T-shirt with a cap. Ivu (Ba) was wearing a no-sleave jacket without any undershirt to show off his trained upper body. Ryoga (Gt) was wearing a dotted shirt, and the main guitarist Reno had decided to go with a stylish suit-like coordinate. Shin (Vo) was wearing a leather jacket to a white tank top.
The band started off with 2 songs from their indie period, "Across the Border" and "Distance of Mind", warming up the whole hall at once, making all of the audience wave their fists in the air and dancing to the rhythm. Next, they brought up the spirits with "BLUE" and then filled the hall with rock by performing "FAKE".
"Tokyo! This is the first day of the tour!"
Shin shouted to the audience. The audience jumped to the sounds of "risk" and "vanity". During the performance that was full of energy, Ivu left his bass to the stage and made a dive to the audience. This act that isn't usually seen in the lives these days is an ordinary thing at ViViD's lives.
After "REAL", the atmosphere in the hall changed at once when the heartrending, but at the same time heart-warming "PRECIOUS" began. The members played the song that connects the band and the fans smiling tenderly. "Sing with me", Shin said as the last chorus of the song started, and the whole hall became one with everyone singing together with Shin.
After this became another song with a slow tempo, "Natsukaze ~Endless Love~". Surrounded by warm illuminations reminding of summer, the audience clapped their hands to the rhythm. With the intro of "memories in white" the hall went silent, and Shin's clear voice absorbed the whole audience to the performance.
"Thank you."
Next, the sounds of an acoustic guitar filled the hall. With the acoustic playing of Ryoga, "Natsubana" began. The voice of Shin singing at the center of the stage blended together with the sounds that each of the members were playing, and filled the whole live house with a tender melody.
"Are you having fun?" - Shin started the MC after finishing the song.
"We have reached our 4th year. I'm grateful for this many people gathering here today.
From today we will start our longest tour so far. We made you lonely last year. After the live at Budokan, we felt that we weren't good enough as a band yet, and decided to face ourselves properly before coming back to stand in front of you. I'm thinking of this as ViViD's new start."
"Today is the first live. There are 40 lives to go. I'm sure that we will have lots of fights, but that will make our trust for each other stronger. We will become an even better band and then come back. Let's make this the best tour together!"
"Our dream of Tokyo Dome has became even stronger. I want to create an even better band, and reach 4th, 5th, 6th, 10th anniversary."
Shin talked his feelings passionately, but didn't forget to make the audience laugh.
"What has improved the most during this 4 years is my MC!", he laughed.
The last part of the live began with "Kimikoi", that has been loved by fans since the indie period. With an up-tempo melody with rap mixed into it, "ring" brought smiles to the faces of the people in the audience. The members seemed to be enjoying the song themselves too, blowing kisses, spinning and jumping around the stage with full smiles on their faces.
The atmosphere of the hall changed again, as Reno's guitar solo started. His passion towards his instrument and his pride as a guitarist of ViViD could clearly be heard from the melody. After the solo, the lights started to blink, and "RIDE on time"'s intro began. A song with lyrics giving you power to fulfill your dreams mixed together with a rock sound, a very ViViD-like song.
"Last!", with Shin's words the audience goes wild. During the last song of the main part, "「Yume」~Mugen no kanata~", the members sang along to Shin's vocals with smiles on their faces.
In the encore, the band played their new single "ANSWER", that is currently on sale. A ViViD-like song with rap added to melodic rock, a song you can really feel their development from. After the easy-to-listen, adultlike song with resolution as the theme, each of the members talked about their feelings for this special day.
"The first live of the tour is at the place where we announced our major debut. When we were playing "PRECIOUS", I remembered myself from that period, when I was trying to become popular. Now I'm just trying to stand out (laugh)" - Ko-ki
"I'm really grateful for being able to do a band for 4 years. A new single is going to be released, and we're also having a tour. That's all." - Ivu
"Thank you for coming. We announced our major debut at this place. Today I have been playing wanting to convey you the feelings of gratitude." -Ryoga
And next, Reno.
"Alright. Me, Reno. Treat me well! Should we do that one?"
Here began the "Boy-girl calling" that has became a routine at ViViD's lives.
"Boys!" "Girls!", he called in turns, "Boys are still weak. ...Shin!", he shouted to Shin. Without paying any attention to the surprised vocalist, he continued.
"4 years, it was a long way but we made it. 4 years old means we're still in kindergarten. This years fans are 1st year students. Last years fans are 2nd year students. Each year you go up one grade. This will make it a good school. Todays homeroom is now over."
"I'm feeling great. I'm really happy for being in a band. I hope you keep on supporting us this year too. So, this is our 4th anniversary. I told you my MC has improved the most, but I can't even say "24th April" right. (laugh) (※ Before "ANSWER", he mistakenly said the release date as "4th April") 4th anniversary, and 1st live of the tour, let's warm up the place even more!" - Shin
The words of ViViD, who have said from the very beginning that they are so good friends that they won't lose to anyone with their bonds, are not a lie. The good relationship of the members that you can feel from the MC's are one of ViViD's charm points.
The 2nd son for the encore was "Akujo☆Tricky". Fans pulled out towels and waved them to the music. After this, the intense songs continued with 2 more, "W.B.A" and "survive". Ivu dived to the audience again.
When Shin walked to the front of the stage, the atmosphere in the hall changed once more.
"Next song I will sing to convey feelings of wanting to keep on walking with you from now on too. "message"."
The fans waved their hands to the melody, holding the memories of the 4 years walked together with ViViD, and the hopes for the future deep in their hearts. The members let their eyes wander around the audience smiling tenderly.
"Thank you! This was ViViD!"
ViViD's challenge had just begun.
