ViViD at Hibiya Open Air Concert Hall

The title of ViViD's tour revealed that this concert was going to be a shiny, bright and colorful spectacle: “Dear...ViViD COLORS” started on a mild spring evening, just when the evening twilight began in Tokyo's Hibiya Park.

The fans seemed to have prepared for this event the whole day since they appeared to be competing for the most exciting outfit. But, not just the styling: It was obvious that they practiced a bunch of hand dances just for the show– one of the highlights later on was when all the girls formed a heart with their hands to the rhythm.

The band's staff prepared a stage which feigned simplicity before the live began, but turned into an inferno of candy-colored light once the music started. Drummer Ko-ki was the first to enter the at the front of the stage, heating the girls in the audience up with some dancing and posing before climbing to his drum set. Ko-ki's set was uniquely elevated, allowing him to be seen throughout the gig.

After him, Ryoga, Iv, Reno and Shin did the same, but when the guitarist, (who later took the right side of the stage), appeared in an intensely sexy outfit- white patent leather knees-highs attached by small straps to micro hot pants of the same material, every mouth fell open. He obviously enjoyed the attention and performed an erotic dance, to the delight of the crowd.

The music started with a deafening bang, which caused scared shrieks among the fans just before they start headbanging. Ryoga, Iv, Reno and Shin turned around so that only their backs were seen and threw their fists up in the air to the tune of “Across The Border”.

Both the band and the audience danced enthusiastically without taking time to catch their breath, and it seemed that the little break between “J-guild” and “Take-off” was essential for everybody, giving time to look around this special open-air arena with the beautiful old trees surrounding the amphitheater seats and skyscrapers rising behind the stage. Some of the more energetic girls didn't need to catch their breath, though, and screamed the names of band members, hoping to get a glance from their favorite.

During the 5th song, “Take-off”, huge screens were lit up, allowing everyone to see the band members. Shin did a creative dance where he wraps his arms around each other as quickly as he can, and the fans adopt this. For “Rem”, the stage lighting changes and bathes everything in blue, which emphasized the mood. When “Re:Load” began, the screens dropped, and there was a large screen for each of the five ViViD members. Another highlight for fans was when bassist removed his shirt and showed off his toned upper-body.

After the 18th song the band left, and the first screams for an encore were drowned out by a video promoting the band's latest merchandise. A giant carrot made a special appearance, causing the girls to giggle every time it appeared. After the video message is over, the fans were given a couple of minutes to call for encore before Ko-ki, Ryoga, Iv, Reno and Shin return, changed into street-style clothes as advertising for the latest collection of the Japanese designer, Uniqlo.

Shin showed everyone that he is not only a passionate vocalist, but also a good rapper after Ko-ki got the chance to heat up the audience with his drum solo. Bats flew around in front of the stage as the band thanked the crowd for coming. Then they announced their last song “Dear”, and all the fans were pleasantly surprised by the rain of silver threads which poured down on them, a glamorous finale to an entertaining concert.
