9月29日に高田馬場AREAで行われるイベントPS COMPANY PRESENTS『929 Peace & Smile Session 3MAN』。NAOKI、RENO、Kによるスリーマンライブに靖乃がドラマーとして参加するという形式だが、何と3人それぞれのステージでNAOKI（Vo.NAOKI / Gt.RENO / Ba.K / Dr.靖乃）、RENO（Gt.RENO / Gt.K / Ba.NAOKI / Dr.靖乃）、K（Vo&Gt.K / Gt.RENO / Ba.NAOKI / Dr.靖乃）と、3人がパートを入れ替えつつ参加するという実に珍しい趣向に注目が集まっている。このインタビュー直前にめでたくバンド名も決まったALL_CALL（※発音は英語のalcohol アルコール）。4人だけで作り上げるライブについて、そしてお互いについて大いに語ってもらった

JROCK.tokyo interviewed RENO over his first solo album UNIVERSE, and below is the Japanese report.

ViViDのギタリストとして活動を続けてきたRENO。彼が新たな攻撃のための撃鉄を起こした。それが、11月4日に発売となるソロアルバム『UNIVERSE』の発売だ。ViViD解散以降からソロとして様々なアクションを起こし続けてきたRENO(詳細はhttp://jrock.tokyo/interview/25044/)。その動きの一つ目の到達点となったのが、今回のアルバムとも言えようか。11月には、東名阪を舞台にしたツアーも実施。他にも、様々なライブへの登場を予定している。そんなRENOの今の心境を伺った。

“いろんな人たちと音を合わせるのは良い刺激になりますね。これからもセッションは、ソロ活動の一貫としてやり続けていきたいなと思っています”

―この夏、超絶テクニカルベーシストMASAKIさんのソロツアーに参加すれば、これからはいろんなセッション系イベントにも登場。どんどん表現の場を広げていませんか?

今までずっと一つのバンドのみで活動をしてきたこともあり、外の人たちと一緒に音を合わせる経験がなかったせいか、今はすっごい刺激的ですね。
ソロとして活動を始めて以降、サポート出演や、ゲーム音楽の制作話を振っていただいたりなど、これまでの活動では経験の無かった世界が見えてきたと言うか…。とくにMASAKIさんとのツアーは、メンバーのみなさん、僕よりも10以上年上の大御所の方々ばかり。錚々たるメンツの中に加えていただけたことは、すごく刺激的でした。

Interview with RENO over his First Solo Album “UNIVERSE” “The Album has become a treasure for my life”

JROCK.tokyo interviewed RENO over his first solo album UNIVERSE, and below is the report.

RENO had been performing as a guitarist for ViViD. Now he is ready to give a new attacking shot, which is his solo album “UNIVERSE” to be released on November 4th.
He has been active in various fields after ViViD broke up. (Please refer to http://jrock.tokyo/interview/25044/) This album could be one of the stages that he has reached after all those activities. He is also to join many other lives. I have interviewed and asked how he was feeling and thinking for this moment.

It was quite stimulating to perform with various people. I’d like to play with other artists as a part of my solo activity.

―You took part in a tour of MASAKI in this summer who is a highly skilled bassist while you are to perform in various session events. You seem to be expanding the stage where you express yourself, right?


I had always been in a band so I feel I get stimulated through playing with other artists now. Since I started my solo activity, I’ve been offered to perform as a support guitarist, and to produce music for a game. I’m kind of experiencing a new world that I had never known before…Especially, the tour with MASAKI was carried out by members who were more than 10 years older and the leading artists of this field. It was really exciting that I could perform with such people.

—ViViDの解散から、ソロギタリストとしての活動をスタートされたRENOさん。まずは最近の活動を振り返らせていただこうと思います。6月4日のソロとしての初ライヴがありましたね。手応えはどうでしたか？

RENO：今の時代にヴォーカルのいないギターインストゥルメンタルってかなり珍しいですし、解散してすぐのソロともあって正直不安はありました。でも活動していく中で、ソロだけどサポートのバンドメンバーもいてくれたので1人じゃないんだなとすごく感じました。実際、ステージに立ってみて、ファンの反応が自分の想像以上に良かったので、そこで自信が更についたというか。おかげさまで、昼夜2回のライブ両方ともソールドアウトになりました。

RENO started his career as a solo guitarist after ViViD disbanded. His technical performance and incredible sense for melody are his strength when expanding his activities to various fields. I interviewed him over his strong feelings towards guitar and sound… Let’s hear what he says! He is the guitar hero of the next generation and this is the interview full of his passion! —You’ve been performing as a solo guitarist since ViViD broke up, RENO. Let us look back your recent activities. You had your first solo live on June 4th, right? How did go?

RENO：A guitar instrumental without a vocalist is quite rare for today. Moreover, it was just after the break up so I was nervous for sure. Although I was playing solo I got support members. That made me think I wasn’t playing alone. Also I gained more confidence as fans gave me great reaction when I stood on a stage. Thanks to you all, tickets were sold out for both day and night session.

What kind of band were you playing in at the time?

After high school was over I joined a band when I was nineteen. It was me and the vocalist playing Visual Kei together. I didn’t know a lot about Visual Kei at the time, but I was interested in it. Rock was the main style I could play, like really fast playing and that seemed to be a feature of Visual Kei, so I knew this definitely wasn’t pop music. To begin with, I didn’t fit the pattern (laugh). I thought that every part of the music had to be Visual Kei. So we started playing in that style. Next we wanted a drummer and bassist. I was working part time in a games centre when this guy with pink hair came in. I recognised him from setting up and carrying cases and equipment in live houses. I thought to myself “I have no choice but to talk to him” (laugh).This was how I first met Ko-ki. I asked him if he plays drums really casually and out of the blue (laugh). I invited him out to eat when I was finished work. I told him we wanted to write our own music and showed him the type of sound we were going for . He loved it and wanted to join us ( laugh). We found a bassist and keyboard player soon after but we broke up after about a year and a half.

"If you have a dream, don't give up, but give your best", Reno said, right before the last song of ViViD's triumphant performance at Nippon Budokan, deep emotions apparent in his voice.

After hardly a year since their major debut and in less than four years after their formation, ViViD had conquered the stage of Nippon Budokan - a big step in the career of any band in Japan. Many might have thought it was too early, but on the night of January 7th 2012, ViViD proved them all wrong.

Being dressed in pure white, ViViD opened the concert with their major debut single "夢～ムゲンノカナタ～ / Yume ~Mugen no Kanata~", starting off with full force and urging the audience to head bang from the very first moment.

From the heavier and more aggressive songs like "69-II" and "悪女♂トリッキー / AKUJO TRICKY", to the lighter and more pop-ish songs like "カケラ / Kakera" and "PRECIOUS", ViViD showed their full potential of styles and how they were able to draw the audience into their own world completely. Within moments, they smoothly shifted from powerful pop-rock songs like "BLUE" to a burst of starry glitter in "Trail of Tears" to soft piano sounds.

Reno has been Vivid’s guitarist since their formation in 2009, along with other members Shin(vo.), Ryouga (gt.), IV (Ba.) and Ko-ki (dr.). They have found a new sound with their major second single BLUE. On 23rd of October they performed in the Saitama Super Arena for the V-Rock Festival ’11. November marks their Asia tour of Hong Kong and Taiwan and on 7th January 2012 Vivid will perform their one man live “TAKE OFF ~Birth to the NEW WORLD~” at Budoukan.

Next January’s one man in Budoukan draws all the more closer for Vivid. Part of a charming new band, Reno bewitches fans with amazing skill and performance. He is an interesting new type of Guitar Hero-esque musicians. Leading fellow members with his strength, he is as attentive like a parent to the music he pours his soul into, this is the Reno who is making his first appearances in these pages. From his upbringing and passion for guitar to the individualistic thinking of the meaning of Vivid, here is our animated, powerful conversation.



What was it like growing up when you were a child?

I’m an only child and my parents were every easy going. Although I was scolded when I did something wrong but basically I was left to do what I wanted. We weren’t really rich or anything, just a normal family. Because I was the only child I was given responsibilities. And because it was just me, I was a very meek child when I was little. Even though I was shy, I used to watch people a lot (laughs). I’d always stare at my mum and dad and they had to teach me that that was bad, I shouldn’t do that. Even thought I was a little naughty, I wasn’t a brat who was always doing bad things. When I went to a relative’s house I’d never complain about it. I was the type of kid who usually sat straight [1] next to my parents.

ViViD、ファンの熱気に「前のめりになった」

5人組ロックバンドViViDが1月14・15日、新シングル「message」の発売を記念したイベントを、品川ステラボールで開いた。企画は「ファンと至近距離で触れ合いたい」とメンバーが発案し実現したバンド初の大規模握手会。イベントには2日間で約5000人が集まった。ボーカルのシンは「ダイレクトに長い時間ファンと話すことができて良かった。なかなかない機会なので、こちらも前のめりになってしまった」と交流を楽しんでいた。


「ダイレクトに長い時間ファンと話すことができて良かった。なかなかない機会なので、こちらも前のめりになってしまった。これまで5人一緒にイベントを行ったことはあったけど、メンバー1人1人がファンと話すことは難しかったので、楽しかった。こういうイベントをもっと増やしていきたい。新曲「message」は日本武道館に立つ自分たちを想像して歌詞を書きました。僕らにとって一生に一度しかない初の日本武道館でのライブ。みんなとの思い出を形にしたい、胸に残し忘れないでほしいなと思いを込めました。歌詞を書くときに見えた景色は、無数に光るペンライト。現実は、その何百倍も感動的な景色で、またこの場所に何度でも立ちたいと思いました。」──シン

「初めて大きな規模でイベントをしたので不安もあったけれど、ファンの方がたくさん来てくれてうれしかった。企画はメンバーで考えたもの。ファンの人が、好きなメンバーとゆっくり話すことができたので良かったなと思う。ファンの方からは1月7日に行った、武道館の感想を多くいただいた。自分自身も、あこがれていた武道館で、自分たちの音楽を聴かせることができて感動したので、直接声をいただいてうれしかった。」──零乃
